All mariners, including recreational boaters, will want to take advantage of the many features and capabilities of this innovative form “automatic” radio. Secure your lifeline. Be sure that you and your family take the Maritime Radio course. This complete package with on-line study guide, and the new Digital Selective Calling, will prepare you for the Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) with DSC Endorsement exam. To many boaters, working on their boat is part of the fun, to say nothing of the savings in cost. All boats need maintenance to correct for the gradual deterioration from wear and tear, and exposure to the elements. A boater should be on the alert for signs of vessel degradation, and make repairs while the problem is minor.The "Engine" portion of the course begins with an overview of propulsion fundamentals, then covers the theory of operation and definition of major components, using the inboard gasoline-powered engine as an example. Basic troubleshooting is discussed. Marine diesel engines are covered, as are drive systems (inboard, inboard/outboard) for both types of engines. Outboards are covered in a separate chapter. We have also covered controls, alarms, instrumentations and steering systems. Lastly, we review the course with a section on emergency repairs.The "Boating" portion of the course begins with an overview of hulls, including wooden, fiberglass, aluminium and steel. This includes a chapter on fiberglass hull repairs, gel coat maintenance, osmosis, blistering, galvanic corrosion, bottom paint, etc.. General maintenance of the entire vessel is reviewed, with a separate chapter on seasonal maintenance including winterizing and storage considerations.We also try to arrange field trip(s) to supplement classroom instruction, but subject to availability and time restraint's of all involved. 8 weeks, one evening per week.
